More about:

With the release of 2019’s Boat, Dutch outfit Pip Blom announced their arrival as one of the most exciting bands on the indie scene today. Now, they’re back with their latest LP Welcome Break, a collection of exciting and youthful guitar-pop tracks that all carry a sense of reckless abandonment.

Opener ‘You Don’t Want This’ is a track packed full of shredding guitars and harmonic melodies, vocals gliding over the ecstatic instrumentation to create a blissful summer indie-pop track. This energy is continued on ‘I Know I’m Not Easy to Like’, which comes racing out of the speakers to punch the listener square in the face.

Welcome Break isn’t just chock full of hard-rocking guitars or breezy summertime bangers. It wears its sensitivities and tenderness on its sleeve, as evidenced on ‘It Should Have Been Fun’, whose lyrical themes focus on the breakdown of a relationship.

With Welcome Break, Pip Blom have exceeded the highs of even their debut LP. A record of two halves—breezy pop and introspective guitar rock—it shows a growth within the band. Pip Blom are an outfit who carry themselves with a sense of maturity, but are still unafraid to blast out a youthful tune from time to time.

Welcome Break is out now.
