More about: Blu DeTiger
On Tuesday night TikTok fave Blu DeTiger took to Hoxton’s Colours for an exhilarating show of the perfect strobe lights, funky bass wobbles and jazzy solos. It’s fair to say the vibes were completely surreal, and if Tuesday showed us anything, it’s that: if you haven’t seen her live already, you need to.
Opening the set with blinding white stage lights flickering across the venue, Blu DeTiger stomps into her brand-new single, ‘Hot Crush Lover.’ A joyous and buoyant track on record and even more exhilarating live. Blu’s bass is the obvious focal point, paired with brother Rex on drums and lead guitarist Horace, - ‘Hot Crush Lover,’ - opened the night with warm tones, and a boastful amount of energy.
Up next the band steadily take it back to the 2021 debut EP, How Did We Get Here, as they swiftly moving into track, ‘Toast With The Butter.’ Finally played in full to a London audience for the first time - it did not disappoint.
Swapping out her bass for an electric guitar, Blu heads into nonchalant ‘Cotton Candy Lemonade,’ with sultry vocals. The lights are dimmed, the audience are swaying and beaming at the band as Blu has all of us completely besotted by her effortless stage presence.
Crowd members murmur to each other at just how great this show is, even I too am completely blown away at just how illuminating they are live. Everyone is completely engrossed in the vibe - the venue is perfect, the sound is vibrant and the vibes: immaculate baby. Their management really went above and beyond with the venue too, it was so quintessentially their style, vibrant with a touch of vintage décor, similarly matched music, it felt like the perfect venue to see a Blu DeTiger gig, it really was a great show from beginning to end.
‘Figure it Out,’ went down a treat (obviously), and as the band intro, ‘Kinda Miss You,’ a fan screams from the audience “I miss you too,” before Blu (yes you guessed it), slams some very fruity bass plucks, it’s the perfect love story… Just when you think it couldn’t’ get any better, the band spontaneously spin into a mashup of covers, with Gorrliaz ‘Feel Good,’ and into OutKast’s, ‘Ms. Jackson,’ and concluding with M.I.A’s ‘Paper Planes.’ I can’t explain just how random this mash-up felt, it was almost like an encore ahead of time? It caught me so off guard, but in the most positively incredible way possible. Everyone was equally just as confused and obsessed by this.
Surfing her way into the crowd for some heavy solo work, Blu blends funk with soul as she introduces new single, “Enough 4 You,’ live. Completing with booming drums and penetrative bass wobbles, it’s the one and only, ‘Vintage,’ making for a perfect ending, until next time.
