More about:

Superorganism’s World Wide Pop is eccentric, cartoonish and, most importantly, loads of fun. The London-based band’s sophomore album is a glitchy, energetic reflection on technology, our planet and community, and features an arrangement of vibrant guests, including previous touring pals CHAI and Pi Ja Ma, who fit seamlessly into the album’s quirky world.

Its sound is akin to popping candy – it bangs and fizzes – which can take a little getting used to, but the eventual pay-off is worth your patience. Songs like ‘On & On’ and ‘Solar System’ are perfect pop songwriting featuring smart, irresistible, and sugary-sweet choruses, the latter of these tackling social isolation with a keen wit fundamental to Superorganism’s being, with lead vocalist Orono singing yearningly “I’ve never felt this lonely / come on and hold me / Solar System help me out!”

Since their debut in 2017, Superorganism have had the same lively personality and intelligent sense of humour that makes bands like The Go! Team or Kero Kero Bonito so endearing. With World Wide Pop, Superorganism’s sound is refined and sharpened, and as representative of their wacky, colourful universe, it is an excellent manifesto.

World Wide Pop arrives 15 July via Domino Recordings.
