Think of originality and authenticity as two concepts which link loving hands, skipping drunkenly down the street together, before either one trails by the wayside with shit on their trainers. Where Zico Chain may not be the most original of bands appropriating rifts from various metal outfits (Motley Crew and Distillers for starters), they do have a certain authentic charm to them. Up until this week they’ve not been a particularly hype savvy band, relying on word of mouth from a myspace army emblazoned with ‘ZC’ tattoos (free entry to their gigs or something). Unfortunately ‘Where would you rather be?’ is not the best track they have to offer, with a pretty basic (and dull) rift (which is far too slow); it’s nothing on the slicker sounding ‘Preach’ but is still more promising than most bands’ attempts to reverberate the eighties rock scene.
