Scanners - 'Lowlife'

Scanners - 'Lowlife' Photo:

Going down the Metric/Duke Spirit route of girls and guitars, ‘Lowlife’ is a pretty decent but formulaic offering. It’s fair to lump it in that group also for reasons such as Scanners’ garage rock undertones.  The radio edit’s verses predictable and repetitive though not unlikeable, but with a bit more going on between the gaps it could easily lose that charge. The chorus, however, is a real belter with a strong emphatic beat and a more alive vocal. The Teenagers’ remix is a vast improvement, with more imaginative percussion but still isn’t enough to fill said holes. LA Riot’s remix, on the contrary, sounds bare and flawed rather than minimal and vital.

Released 28/01/08 on Universal.
