Louise Rose Allen is undeniably hot property right now, having already acquired an array of admirers with her sweet-talking pop. Her stage name ‘Foxes’ is the act on everyone’s lips right now. Playing the final gig of her UK tour at XOYO we decided to head down and see if the hype was justified.
Nothing is running smoothly tonight it seems, after a few false openings from the band and a restless crowd later, the night didn’t get off to the best of starts. However, it’s clear that everyone is just eager for the Southampton-hailing beauty to make her appearance, whether she’s late or not.
Opening with ‘Beauty Queen’, Allen is full of energy and quickly notions that she’s going to make up for every second of her lateness. Full of quirky charisma, the singer is utterly magnetic on stage, where she makes plenty of effort to engage with her audience. Turning the tempo down slightly for ‘White Coats’, the beautifully dreamy track showcases Foxes' vocal talent, where her haunting twangs insure she’s giving us something a little different to hold onto.
‘Echo’ also undoubtedly turns out to be a dark horse of a gem, where the crowds Instagram and film the evidence that they were there to witness this. Perhaps it has something to do with her similarities to Zooey Deschanel, but there really is something captivating about Foxes. She seems to have the style, voice and likeability to win over anyone - oh and she has great bangs too.
The new single ‘Youth’ ends tonight’s performance with a vocally pleasing execution and plenty of crowd participation. The track is uplifting and empowered throughout, where Foxes manages to keep everyone at the front jumping, not bad for a Tuesday.
After a loveable performance with well-penned songs and a charismatic charm, tonight’s show has proven that Foxes is worth the hype. Although forgive the cynicism but we do wonder whether Foxes is just another prime example of where good marketing can get you - where image is almost the main draw. Although it is only a Tuesday night, so perhaps we’ll leave the cynicism for a later day.
