A real carnival atmosphere engulfs The O2 Arena as Basement Jaxx arrive in town for a show that would rival any of the best Christmas parties taking place across the land. The 20 year veterans doth their caps to the golden age of disco, nod their heads at modern dance and showcase the best in British electronic music with an invigorating live set that spans their rather illustrious career.
Classic dance bangers like opening number ‘Good Luck,’ the infectious ‘Do Your Thing’ and the infamous ‘Red Alert’ sit wonderfully well alongside hits from their seventh and most recent album Junto. Boasting performers from around the world, the Basement Jaxx collective includes everything and everyone from an 8ft robot to a guitar playing gorilla and with a stage that is always overflowing with talent; it provides a magnificent visual experience that only compliments the music.
Fans, young and old are in unison throughout and as a chorus of “Where's your head at” echoes around the arena supporting Felix Buxton during the extraordinary ending, there is not a single person standing still.
A Basement Jaxx gig is not a toe-tapping experience; it almost an outer body one. Every bone in your body wants to get loose and free and as the whole arena dances the night away it is wonderful to see a band who have honed their craft deliver the goods time and time again.
Returning to the stage for a triumphant encore that starts with ‘Rendez-Vu,’ the fabulous lead singers Vula Malinga and Sharlene Hector then take time to introduce members of the Basement Jaxx group before the samba sounds of ‘Bingo Bango’ prove to have all the ingredients of a perfect finale. Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe have reinvigorated the band with the release of a new album this year and with an all singing, all dancing live show to showcase now is a better time than ever to see Basement Jaxx.
