- More Calvin Harris
And so here’s another track from the rapidly becoming ubiquitous Calvin Harris, following in the footsteps of the inescapable ‘Acceptable In The 80s’ and ‘The Girls’. ‘Merrymaking At My Place’ is pretty much what you’d expect from the Scot, though with a less obvious and slower pace than before. A low-fi groove heavy, funk backing lets Harris drawling vocals tell the story of a party at his place.
Although lyrics like “let them drink inside of my house, make them smoke outside of my house” aren’t exactly the most striking couplets on record, ‘Merrymaking At My Place’ proceeds in a fairly relaxing, enjoyable manner, not so much a wild, anything goes all night party as a slumbering Sunday morning spent watching kids TV and reading newspapers. While this is decent enough background music, it’s a shame there isn’t an extra dose of adrenaline kicking in at some point, lifting it to a higher level and the fact that it simply meanders on is a negative that stops this from becoming a party that’ll linger in the memory.
Released: 20/08/07 on Columbia Records
