Few artists who front a band who become an institution are able to exist outside of the shadow of their past, but Brandon Flowers has well and truly hit his stride on his own terms - releasing one of the finest pop albums of the year with The Desired Effect. The song that launched it all was the immaculate mini epic 'Can't Deny My Love'.

"It's pretty possessive," laughs Flowers, telling Gigwise about the meaning of the track. "It's from a pretty possessive place. I just sort of did my best to serve that once I had that chorus - that became apparent what it was about and I was able to really finish it off.
"It's definitely takes you somewhere - it's incredible how music can be powerful some time."
