Continuing a collection of covers from the This Feeling community

Walking into a This Feeling club night, you know exactly what to expect. But aside from energetic live shows and the whiff of Red Stripe, the solidarity that unites everyone involved is perhaps the most poignant piece of the This Feeling puzzle.

With no live shows this Spring due to COVID-19, Gigwise is bringing you a collection of covers from the bands who were meant to be performing for TF over the coming months.

Harnessing their sense of community spirit, founder Mikey Jonns says of the collaborative project: “All these bands were due to play for us this Spring in grassroots venues and whilst clearly that's not happened, it hasn't stopped This Feeling band’s sense of community and spirit, as well as supporting the venues they were due to play (almost all are under threat). Stay at home, get in the zone and if you can please help save the UK's grassroots circuit by chipping in whatever you can. Mikey X”

Today Shambolics and Ivory Wave get acquainted with one another through song…

Gigwise: Tell us about the band you're covering…

Shambolics: We had heard of them through This Feeling. Top band! Hopefully get to see them live or play with them once everything is back to normal.

G: How has Coronavirus impacted your plans?

S: This year was shaping up to be a huge year and now it’s pretty much wiped out our whole year. But on the positive side it’s just gonna shape 2021 to be an absolute belter of a year.

G: How have you adapted to the situation?

S: We’ve been writing a bit more. We’ve been doing weekly lockdown cover versions of tracks we like from some of our favourite bands, from Abba to the Stones. Its been a challenge but its been good fun!

G: What’s your best This Feeling memory?

S: The recent tour we done was class because all of the gigs sold out. But getting the chance to play at Reading Festival & Isle of Wight Festival is definitely the best memory!

And over to Ivory Wave…

Gigwise: Tell us about the band you're covering…

Ivory Wave: We first saw Shambolics on their tour with Vida in Birmingham at a venue called Dares - we ended up back at the Sunflower Lounge in Birmingham and got totally plastered!

G: How has Coronavirus impacted your plans?

IW: It’s totally put a stop on everything we’ve had planned for the year, we could sit here and complain about it, but you’ve just got to get on with it!

G: How have you adapted to the situation?

IW: We’ve definitely been writing a lot more and it’s probably some of the best stuff we’ve ever written, so we can’t wait to get in the studio to record it!

G: What’s your best This Feeling memory?

IW: We played in London a few months back and at the end of our set the other lads in band looked out into the crowd and could see Carl Barat singing along to the last song in our set, ‘Club’. Luckily I didn’t notice when I was onstage because I would’ve lost my shit... he’s a huge influence on the music I make. We got to meet him afterwards and we exchanged details, so who knows what might happen when lockdown is over.

G: What does 'The Zone' mean to you?

IW: Good music, good vibes and good beer.
