Continuing a collection of covers from the This Feeling community

Walking into a This Feeling club night, you know exactly what to expect. But aside from energetic live shows and the whiff of Red Stripe, the solidarity that unites everyone involved is perhaps the most poignant piece of the This Feeling puzzle.

With no live shows this Spring due to COVID-19, Gigwise is bringing you a collection of covers from the bands who were meant to be performing for TF over the coming months.

Harnessing their sense of community spirit, founder Mikey Jonns says of the collaborative project: “All these bands were due to play for us this Spring in grassroots venues and whilst clearly that's not happened, it hasn't stopped This Feeling band’s sense of community and spirit, as well as supporting the venues they were due to play (almost all are under threat). Stay at home, get in the zone and if you can please help save the UK's grassroots circuit by chipping in whatever you can. Mikey X”

Today it’s the turn of The Feens and Stanleys.

Gigwise: Tell us about the band you're covering…

The Feens: We’re covering Stanleys. We’re definitely new fans! We’ve seen the hype on Twitter and we’re into their tunes for sure. Hopefully we get to play with them in the future. We’ve been in touch with them about each other’s songs, they seem like really sound lads.

G: How has coronavirus impacted your plans?

TF: Had loads lined up that has either been cancelled or rescheduled so naturally we’re gutted that it’s on hold.

G: How have you adapted to the situation?

TF: We’ve been writing loads, toying with new demos and new recording equipment. We’ve just done an isolation cover featuring all of us that will be going out shortly too!

G: What’s your best This Feeling memory?

TF: Got loads but have to go with either Y Not Festival last year or most recently our two sold out hometown shows in Scarborough.

G: What does 'The Zone' mean to you?

TF: A lot. Just instantly think good times to be had. Given us the platform to go and play venues and cities we initially thought were out of our reach and helped to further our career and ambitions. Memories to last forever.

And now for Stanleys…

Gigwise: Tell us about the band you're covering…

Stanleys: We’ve been fans of The Feens since we heard about their sell out Scarborough dates and decided to check them out. Awesome band with loads of class tunes. Really hope to play with them in the future.

G: How has coronavirus impacted your plans?

S: We had plans to go back in the studio and do an EP and later get it out on tour but coronavirus has stopped all this. Everyone’s in the same boat though, we just have to be patient I suppose.

G: How have you adapted to the situation?

S: Tom and Jake live together in the same flat so it makes it a bit easier. They’ve been writing lots of new tunes. With rehearsing we’ve found it really hard as it isn’t really possible on Zoom and Skype due to the time delay.

G: What’s your best This Feeling memory?

S: Our best This Feeling memory has either got to be our headline at Jimmy’s or supporting Red Rum Club in Wigan. The Red Rum Club one does it for me as I remember being on stage with them at the end of the gig jumping around to their last tune after finishing a crate of Red Stripe.

G: What does 'The Zone' mean to you?

S: The Zone means guaranteed good music to us.
