More about: Record Store Day
Record Store Day is here. Taking place on Saturday April 22nd, we’re checking the list and making action plans.
With the UK-wide Gigwise team prepping to scatter to our favourite local record stores, here are the releases we’re hoping to secure…
Deep Space X (Juan Atkins Remixes)
Although we suspect it may have had something to do with lockdown, Carl Cox's sudden desire to get into the studio and produce a long overdue new album had solid enough results. The thought of those results being handed over to a production don and techno originator like Detroit's Juan Aktins, on the other hand, will put it into a whole new league of anticipatory desire. Whether he'll go for the trademark electro-infused sound of his roots or something a little more linear and sturdier, waits to be seen, but either way it'll probably be dancefloor gold. - Ben Willmott

Kae Tempest - Nice Idea EP
It’s the rapper's first release of the year and features tracks recorded in a brief break during their "The Line Is A Curve” tour. The title track is already out and suggests the EP may well be Tempest’s stepping stone into a fresh musical direction. It’d be great to own their first step into a new sound. - Adam Wright
The Big Moon - Love in the 4th Dimenson
One of the best debuts ever and a perfect example of radio friendly indie music. Double points for being an all-women band, making their place in such a male dominated scene! - Evie Gower
Foals - Life Is Dub
Although Life Is Yours was and remains an excellent album, it did feel like there was more that could be told in that particular story and so the reassuringly simply-titled Life Is Dub has the potential to round the era off. To gift the responsibility of reimagination to super-producer Dan Carey is a shrewd move by the boys, and it promises to be the comforting sofa to the parent album's dancefloor. - Richard Bowes
Taylor Swift - The Long Pond Sessions
The fans pretty much get excited the second Taylor Swift does anything, even if it’s still in rumour form. And this time, she’s finally releasing The Long Pond Sessions on vinyl for RSD, bringing new nostalgia aesthetics and rawness to already beautiful renditions to some of the best songs of her career. Sat with long-time collaborators and own-right geniuses Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff, the exposed take on folklore is haunting, ethereal and downright brilliant. - James Mellen
Easy Life - Easy Life LIVE
I’m very, very excited for Easy Life LIVE because as well as being a massive fan of them for a couple years, I reviewed the new album MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE… and was a big fan, especially tracks: ‘BASEMENT’ and ‘MEMORY LOSS’ which are two of the four that will feature on the release. This one was also filmed in the iconic studio 2 of Abbey Road within an impressively looking neon-light lit house to fit the album’s homely theme. - Tom Adams
Yumi Zouma - (What's The Story) Morning Glory
Last year, New Zealand's finest dream pop export Yumi Zouma hit new heights with their incredible fourth album, Present Tense. Gorgeous and beautifully string-tinged, it was a record that would frequently whisk you away to some place magical. However, it's fair to say they aren't necessarily the first band you would expect to release a cover of Oasis' seminal sophomore album, but the prospect of such a combination is nothing but intriguing. Well, back in 2017 such a cover album was indeed released with a very limited initial run on vinyl. Now thanks to Record Store Day 2023, more people will be able to dive into this mysterious take on a defining 90s classic - and we personally can't wait to hear it. - Karl Blakesley
The 1975 - Live With The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra
For 1975 fans, a compilation album of some of their finest tracks alongside album deepcuts and big hits would be enough of a sell. But add in a full orchestra and it becomes a must-have. As this years RSD ambassadors as they storm their way around the world on their finest tour to date, The 1975 are at their very best and this is an essentially little piece of their ever upwards rise. - Lucy Harbron
