More about: The Japanese House
An artist we’ve been hooked on since their first releases, The Japanese House has kept us captivated. Returning last month with the stunning track, ‘Boyhood’, Amber Bain has doubled down with new track ‘Sad To Breathe’ as she announces her second album.

Tackling heartbreak in her typically left-field way, layering gut-wrenching lyrics over a surprisingly upbeat sound. The signature The Japanese House fascinating production and unique vocal effect makes her so singular and so recognisable, and ‘Sad To Breathe’ is the artist at their best and clearest.
Talking about the track, Amber said: “I wrote Sad To Breathe some time ago, it’s one of the oldest songs on the record. It was very different back then; it’s gone from being solely electronic to what it is now, mostly live/ acoustic instrumentation. It’s about that desperate feeling when someone leaves you and the disbelief that they could. It’s funny you could have those kind of insane dramatic thoughts, that feel so real at the time, but can by some miracle look back in fondness to your entire life being ruined. It all circles back around.”
With two incredible singles down, we’re already racing towards June and the release of the new album In the End It Always Does. As always, produced alongside The 1975’s George Daniels, Amber also thanks Matty Healy, MUNA’s Katie Gavin and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon - suggesting this is going to be a masterpiece from a crack team of musical big leagues.
In The End It Always Does arrives June 30th
