Gary Clark Jr. has kindly shared a stream of his awesome new album, The Story of Sonny Boy Slim, on Gigwise first. Have a listen below.

Slated for a 11 September release, The Story of Sonny Boy Slim is more or less totally produced by Clark himself, which gives an insight into the richer, more grass-roots sounds that have come off the singles so far.

The Story of Sonny Boy Slim is a combination of his biggest influences, ranging from Leadbelly to Outkast and Marvin Gaye, with sounds that flow effortlessly from retro soul to hip-hop and aggressive hard rock.

The album was recorded at Arlyn Studios in Clark’s hometown of Austin, Texas. Clark explained that he wanted to "soak up my hometown vibe and put some of that energy back on record while it was still fresh."

The thirteen-track record is available to stream today on Gigwise. It's a definite contender for album of the year.

Clark rose to prominence in 2010 when Eric Clapton invited him to perform at his Crossroads Festival on a bill that was curated by Bill Murray. He was also invited to participate in the Austin segment of Foo Fighters’ Sonic Highway documentary, and he’s set to join the band on tour this autumn.

Gary Clark Jr. recently announced two dates at London’s Electric Ballroom on 15-16 November. The second date is already sold-out, while tickets for the first show are also selling quickly.
