Irish quintet O Emperor know two things for sure: how to make immersive psych-rock, and that humour is the most efficient way to get noticed.
The band have been gaining traction for their shimmering indie-rock for a minute now, but with a video like 'Switchblade', O Emperor are making it hard to ignore them. There's an analogue warmth to the production indicative of a low-budget recording, but it only adds to the gravitas of the music.
The members came together, as most young bands do, after going through the motions as friends in school. Their development into adults ran in tandem to their ever-expanding tastes in music. The result is the welcoming and fizzy sounds of O Emperor and, specifically, 'Switchblade'.
The video is equally endearing; a poorly animated narrative that follows an Illuminati abbot bleeding subliminal messages into the media via the perfectly engineered pop band, who also happen to be lizards. The clunky animation and dry humour cannot be missed.
