Daft Punk are now selling an official skateboard, as well as a range of outstanding throwback T-shirts.
In yet another example of how two French robots can capture the glamour of the Seventies in some style, the band have unveiled a brand new official skateboard. Naturally they haven't just gone for any old material.
They are described in the following terms: "These artisanal skateboard decks are handmade in France of molded beechwood by Hervet-Manufacturier. The board is clad with Formica laminate on both sides. The top face is laser engraved with a "grip effect" repeated logo pattern. The bottom is a 2 color inlayed logo. Limited to a series of 25 units per colorway with a laser etched edition number." The price is $280.
Other items on sale include totes, babygros, stickers belt buckles and the deeply covetable slipmats.
Daft Punk recently created a short tribute video for the Chic frontman Nile Rodgers. Nile Rodgers: From Disco to Daft Punk is a documentary about Rodgers’ career, from his work with Chic to producing songs for the likes of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Madonna and Eric Clapton. The documentary is also being released to coincide with the June release of It’s About Time, Chic’s first new LP in 23 years.
Although most of the documentary is in French, there is a short clip from Daft Punk, in which they play Carly Simon’s track ‘Why’ (which was co-produced by Rodgers), as they type the following message:
“DEAR NILE,
WE ARE SENDING YOU THIS TRANSMISSION TO THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR AMAZING SONGS.
YOUR MUSIC CONTINUES TO INSPIRE THE WORLD…
WITH LOVE,
DAFT PUNK”
