Yesterday, The Maccabees announced that they’re splitting up after 14 years together - and fans are pretty distraught.
The band, who released their fourth (and now final) album, Marks To Prove It, last year, announced the news via a statement on Twitter, saying they're “very proud to be able to go out on our own terms.”
They explained, “The decision has obviously been an incredibly difficult one, given that The Maccabees has been such a huge part of our lives until now."

Unsurprisingly, fans haven’t taken the news lightly.

Saddened to hear that @themaccabees have split. Provided two of my favourite live performances ever. Reading 2012 was magical.

This makes me SO sad. The Maccabees basically soundtracked my life to this point, and seeing them at Latitude last month was so beautiful.

The Maccabees, who are helmed by lead singer Orlando Weeks, released their debut single, ‘X-Ray’, back in 2005. They were quickly signed to a major label, and released their debut album, Colour It In, in 2007.
Last year, the band achieved their first UK No.1 album in the form of Marks To Prove It.
The Maccabees headlined Latitude Festival last month, and have promised some "farewell celebration shows" in the near future. Watch this space.
