Morrissey has released a statement congratulating Ireland for voting yes in its equal marriage referendum - but couldn't resist turning the conversation almost immediately back to animal rights.
The country made history on Friday (22 May) when it became the first country to legalise gay marriage via popular vote - with more than 62% of voters in favour, and 38% against.
Many musicians have taken to social media over the weekend to congratulate the people of Ireland, including Miley Cyrus, Sam Smith, Drenge and U2 - who dedicated their song 'Pride' to Ireland at an Arizona gig.
Now, via his ever loyal, endearingly old-fashioned fansite True To You, Morrissey has also weighed in on the result, writing: "Congratulations to Ireland. The people, once again, teach the church. The people, once again, teach the politicians."
Not content to just allow this brief moment to be about human equality though, he continued, "Now, Ireland, please abolish fur farms and factory-farming and transportation of live animals, and welcome yourself completely into the 21st century."
