In a statement released on their website, a spokesperson for The Who claims that they stepped in for Prince as a Sunday headliner and that their equipment was sabotaged.
The report can be read in a new blog post written on The Who's official website. When NME investigated they found that the author of the post was a touring member of the band who plays keyboards on stage and helps as a part of the technical crew.
The post accounts the Sunday's (June 28) proceedings, with backstage information like: "not many know that we were a last-month's addition to the show, replacing Prince who decided not to come this year."
The atmosphere turns bitter as the crew ready up their stage procedures: "As we began to prepare our coming changeover, we found someone had sabotaged the carefully-tested audio connections for much of our gear. We've never seen that before, but we're good at plugging things in, so all damage was repaired in time. Was it Mr.Weller or Lionel, no way. Dalai La,a - hmmm.... he did steal the show already. Well, so far..."

The account continues detailing the quality of the headline performance: "Yet within a few songs, we knew something was wrong. The band were playing MORE than a little loose, rather sloppy in fact. Pete was growing angry right away, yelling at one point that the band ought to play "like we're in the same f*ing band".
"After the show, Pete felt it was one of the very worst the band had ever played".
