The Libertines played a two-hour surprise gig in Camden last night (28 July), during which they played several tracks from their new album, as well as covering The Clash, The Strokes, Tiffany and Amy Winehouse.
The guerrilla gig began when all four members had been drinking together at The Dublin Castle pub, and Pete Doherty got onstage unannounced to sing 'Albion' to the small crowd.
Encouraged by this warm-up, they then decided to make their way to 265-capacity Blues Kitchen to perform a 28-song set. The show wasn't confirmed online in any way, and was publicised only through word of mouth once it had begun.
As well as tracks from their forthcoming third album, Anthems For Doomed Youth, the band also covered The Strokes' 'Someday', The Clash's 'Rudie Can't Fail', Tiffany's 'I Think We're Alone Now ' and Amy Winehouse's 'Tears Dry On Their Own' among others.
After taking fan requests, the band took it in turns to stage dive, with Barat fulfilling his dream "to crowdsurf from the stage to the bar", returning with a bottle of rum which he poured into Doherty's mouth.
