Speaking to NME, Gallagher reacted to the news saying that he'd be keen to have a crack at the theme himself.
"If I was asked," he said. "Fucking too right. I'd record a Bond theme in a heartbeat. But they usually want people who are famous in America, don't they? I'm only famous in Manchester. And bits of south London."
Smith had kept very secretive about his input in this project up until this point. "This is one of the highlights of my career," said Sam. "I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it."
Sam wrote the song with his GRAMMY-winning, longtime collaborator Jimmy Napes who he worked with his smash-hit 'Stay With Me'.
