The Jesus And Mary Chain have announced that they've begun recording a new album - their first in 17 years.

The band's debut album, Psychocandy, celebrated its 30th birthday this year - and they've been celebrating by performing the album, which includes tracks 'Just Like Honey' and 'Never Understand', in full.

Now though, they've decided its time to stop looking back and start looking forward. In an interview with Time Out New York, singer Jim Reid said, "We're doing an album now. We actually just started recording."

He later added, "It's early days, but I would say it's a more mature sound for the Mary Chain. But let's just wait and see."

The Jesus And Mary Chain's last album, Munki, was released back in 1998. Shortly thereafter, the band broke up - before reuniting in 2007.
