Is Tropical's latest video is a mess. A whirring, beautiful mess tinged with African influences both musically and visually - it's a day-maker. Check it out below.
Last year, the London quartet announced that their third album, Black Anything, would, ambitiously, be released in five parts - one for each continent it was recorded in.
Part 1 (Crawl/On My Way) was recorded in North America, while Part 2 (Cruise Control/Say) was recorded in Europe. Part 3 was released last Friday (9 October) and represents the African chapter of this global feat.
Delving into the method behind the madness, the band said: "We didn't want to make African sounding songs when we were out there, we wanted to utilise the surrounding environment to make IS TROPICAL songs. We didn't want to come away with a Paul Simon 'You can call me Al', but we did want the incidentals of African life to seep into the songs."
And you can totally hear it. 'Fall', the track premiering below, is a dynamic synth tune with distorted choruses, a chaotic mixing and shoddily layered vocals that superimpose to fabricate the DIY atmosphere. Like I said before - a beautiful mess, an IS TROPICAL mess.

Speaking about the video, the band said: "We wanted to pay homage to old cinema trickery, similar to how Lars Von Trier played with projections in his 1991 film Europa. Working from the title of the track 'Fall' our plan was to create a falling shot of Kirstie whilst she sang.
"The video was done for zero budget around Ellis Scott's studio in North London, where we suspended Kirstie in the style of shibari, Japanese rope bondage. As we couldn't afford to post out wires we turned the hanging into an aesthetic and placed her above several house fans."
