The Mercury Music Prize streaming shortlist has revealed Bring Me The Horizon to be the public's most favoured British band.
Since the Mercury shortlist is revealed on Friday 16 October, Google Play Music have released it's very own version of the shortlist based on the popularity of streaming figures each potential Mercury winner has received.
At the top of the table, Sheffield's own Bring Me The Horizon have pole position dominating almost a quarter of the total streams out of the 12 most streamed albums in the shortlist with their latest album, That's The Spirit
Following behind, Jess Glyne, Foals and Years & Years all seem to have a look in for this year's alternative to the BRITs. The data was collated from all British albums released between 9 September 2014 and 25 September 2015 - the same release period specified by the Mercury Prize organisers.
The figures show that guitar based music is still getting the masses excited by The Libertines, Catfish & The Bottlemen and Mumford & Sons all appearing in the top 12.
Speaking on the table, Rory Woodbridge, the EMEA Music Streaming Lead at Google Play commented: "Whilst we are not attempting to predict the outcome of the Mercury Prize nomination shortlist, streaming volumes do help us to spot which artists are experiencing a particular surge in popularity. There is a certain gravitas associated with artists who are nominated for the prize and given Bring Me The Horizon’s meteoric rise to fame over the past couple of years, expect to see them headline a major UK festival soon."
