Sporting a vintage t-shirt that pays homage to Nirvana’s Heart Shaped Box, Bieber displayed his admiration for the 90’s iconic rockers whilst winning his award at the American Music Awards 2015. Accordingly, Nirvana fans took to the web to express their strong disapproval.
Bieber, who received the 'Collaboration of the Year' award for his hit song with Skrillex & Diplo, 'Where R U Now', received less popularity for his outfit.
On the Twitter-sphere, some suggested that Kurt Cobain would undoubtedly share their discontent, with one angry fan saying that Cobain would most likely “kick Bieber in the teeth” if the deceased rocker were to be resurrected. Others criticised Bieber for not being able to even list 3 Nirvana songs.
Despite grunge rock fans feeling disgruntled by Bieber’s wardrobe malfunction, Courtney Love has expressed her support for the bleached blonde pop star. “You’re cool in my book @justinbieber xc”, Love tweeted. Never mind, Love isn’t at the height of popularity with Nirvana fans anyway, especially following the release of Benjamin Statler’s docudrama on Cobain’s death, Soaked in Bleach.
Bieber also came under grave scrutiny from metal fans after wearing a Metallica t-shirt whilst appearing on The Ellen show, earlier this year.
