Bruce Springsteen has announced that he will release his new solo album after touring The River’s Reissue with the E Street Band.

In an interview with SiriusXM’s E Street Radio, he called his upcoming album “more of a solo project” that wouldn’t feature his E Street Band comrades. The Boss’ 2005’s Devils & Dust also didn’t feature them.

“It wasn’t a project I was going to probably take the band out on… So I said, ‘Gee, that’s going to push the band playing again until a ways in the future. It’ll be nice to get some playing in so you don’t wind up being two or three years between E Street tours.’ This will give us a chance to get out there and stretch our muscles a little bit.” .

Springsteen stated that the release of The River’s Reissue box set triggered a new tour. “We made the box set and there was no plan to tour. Then we felt, ‘Maybe we should do a show just to raise the flag and have some fun and make it a little more exciting.’ I said. ‘Okay, maybe we’ll do a show in New York.’ Then that went quick to, ‘Maybe we should do a couple of shows.’ Then it turns into, ‘Maybe we should do a small series of shows, basically one-nighters, with maybe a little bit around the country.” .

According to the ‘Born To Run’ rocker, The River tour will feature a range of songs from the classic 1980’s album, as well as outtakes. “We plan on picking out some of the best of our outtakes for the end of the show, and there will obviously be some fan favourites. I don’t know myself how it will play out. It should be interesting and a lot of fun for the fans.” .

Springsteen has promoted his previously unheard material by releasing a lyrics video to ‘Party Lights’ ahead of The River’s Reiusse release.

He also mentioned that the band that will be touring with him will be stripped down, compared to his last brass-heavy tour. “It’ll be a little more of a rock band format,” Springsteen said. “I’m looking forward to that for a little while and seeing how that feels again. It should be perfect for this record and what we’re doing right now … I miss playing with the guys. I miss playing period. It’s going to be fun.”
