This year, the British public will be able to choose which act will represent them in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.

BBC Four are set to host the voting procedure, in which six shortlisted acts will perform live in front of a panel of experts and British viewers at home. The expert panel will offer their opinions on how well the songs will compete in the grand final.

The 90-minute show, Eurovision: You Decide, will air on BBC4 from the O2 Forum, Kentish Town on 26 February.

The show will be hosted by The Great British Bake-Off presenter Mel Giedroyc, who is a "self-confessed Eurovision fan."

"I am a huge fan of 'the Eurovish' and am honoured to be hosting this fantastic event," Giedroyc said. "It's very exciting that the Great British public will get the chance to choose who will be sent to Sweden and I know it's going to be an amazing night… I can't wait to get the party started!"

It will be the first time in six years that the public are able to choose which British act represents them in Stockholm.

The shortlisted acts are expected to be announced over the next few weeks. The acts will be selected by public submission, British Academy of Songwriters submissions, Composors and Authors and the British Music Industry consultant, Hugh Goldsmith.

BBC Four will also broadcast both semi-finals of this year's contest live from Stockholm on Tuesday 10 and Thursday 12 May.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2016 Grand Final will be broadcast on BBC One on Saturday 14 May.
