The band were joined by thousands of fans and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band as they performed Bowie music through the streets.

David Bowie was a great admirer of Arcade Fire and performed with the band at a fashion rocks concert in 2005 on their track 'Wake Up'. He also sang a backing track on their huge single, 'Reflektor'.

In a note released last week, Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler explained the band's relationship with Bowie.

“David Bowie was one of the band’s earliest supporters and champions. He not only created the world that made it possible for our band to exist, he welcomed us into it with grace and warmth. I will take to the grave the moments we shared; talking, playing music and collaborating as some of the most profound and memorable moments of my life. A true artist even in his passing, the world is more bright and mysterious because of him, and we will continue to shout prayers into the atmosphere he created.”

Win Butler held a red loudspeaker and sang numerous Bowie hits. Above you can hear him singing 'Heroes' in his pink suit and black top hat with the funky jazz band.

The party atmosphere continued into the evening as hits such as 'Suffragette City' and 'Oh You Pretty Things' were belted out, as people remember how much of a genius Bowie was and celebrated the immortal songs he's left behind.
