After Diane Warren took issue with her comments, Linda Perry has apologised for suggesting that Lady Gaga doesn't deserve her recent Oscar nomination.
Lady Gaga and Diane Warren's collaborative track 'Til It Happens To You', which was written for the documentary film The Hunting Ground and which tackles rape on college campuses, was nominated in the Best Original Song category of this year's Academy Awards.
Linda Perry, whose collaboration with Miley Cyrus for Freeheld, 'Hands Of Love', didn't get a nomination, took to Twitter to voice her disapproval.
"Normally I wouldn't respond to all this but I don't know Im feeling spunky," wrote the former 4 Non Blondes member. "There was another artist that originally was gonna sing #TIHTY. I have Diane's original demo with her singing. The only line that has been changed 'Till you're at the end, the end of your rope'."
After a string of tweets, all of which have since been deleted, she concluded, "I credit Diane for writing this song, it is her experience her pain her words. That's it kids."
Diane Warren herself then took to Twitter to rebutt Perry's claims.
The song is the result of a special collaboration between myself and Lady Gaga. As Lady Gaga and I have consistly said. Til it Happens

To you was inspired by the countless survivors of abuse who need our support and love so they know they're not alone.

Subsequently, Perry retracted her comments, and offered her "sincere apologies."
My sincere apologies. I made a mistake to comment. I wasn't in the room when the #TIHTY was being written.

More importantly, I wish the focus to remain on the great importance of the song and the message of the film.

This is Diane Warren's eighth Oscar nomination, though - despite writing the likes of 'Don't Wanna Miss A Thing' and 'Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now' - she's never won.
