Madonna has responded to TMZ's claims that she was "drunk" and "a bitch" during a show in Louisville earlier in the week, accusing the press of treating her "in a totally sexist way."
The singer performed in Louisville as part of her fairly relentless Rebel Heart Tour - for which she played two triumphant shows at The O2 Arena last year - and her characteristically unfiltered behaviour led TMZ to run a story claiming she was drunk.
The gossip website reported that one fan told them: "Madonna was very drunk," while another said, "Madonna was an awesome performer but man she was a bitch."
This report prompted Madonna to edit the caption to a photo she had recently posted, which showed her lying on the floor while performing. She wrote, "My show is 2 hours and 15 minutes of non stop singing and dancing. In Louisville I made a joke about doing a stand comedy act dressed as a clown and being able to drink alcohol."
She wrote, "Its [sic] so very interesting how society continues to not only treat me in a totally sexist way (if i a were a man no one would have said a thing) and also continue to take everything i say literally!Thats what happens when people don't read books and get all information from TMZ."
Meanwhile, Madonna recently covered David Bowie's 'Rebel Rebel' on-stage following news of his death.
