More about:

We thought Lady Gaga and Eastenders’ June Brown striking up a friendship was a strange pairing - but this weekend, something happened to eclipse even that.

Denise Welch, Loose Women panellist and Coronation Street star, hung out with Jared Leto, 30 Seconds To Mars frontman and increasingly unhinged actor. Apparently, they’re now “best friends”.

Welch, in case you didn’t already know, is the mother of The 1975’s Matt Healy - who was performing at Coachella when the photo was taken. You can see his mop of hair on the screen behind them.

Elsewhere at Coachella, Sia stole the limelight from headliner Calvin Harris with what was arguably the performance of the weekend.

  • Chance The Rapper + James Blake: The Chicago rapper and UK producer hit it off after Chance remixed Blake's Overgrown track 'Life Round Here' - and now they're living the sweet life in an LA compound together, chilling in the sunshine and makin' music. Can we move in? We promise we're really tidy and always pay our rent on time. [Photo: Instagram/chancetherapper]

  • Katy Perry + Rihanna: K Pez and RiRi are kind of like those girls at school who were allowed to wear makeup from the age of 9 and rehearsed dance moves in the playground whilst everyone else looked on in jealousy. We just really want to go on a night out with them, get drunk and discuss what Chris Brown and Russell Brand were like in the sack. Actually, maybe not Russell Brand.

  • Pharrell Williams + Tyler, The Creator: Tyler went from self confessed, unashamed mega fan of Pharrell to being pretty good buds with him. Aww. Pharrell even produced and featured on Tyler's album Wolf, as well as appearing in the video for 'Tamale/Answer'. Tyler returned the favour by appearing in Pharrell's 24 hour video for 'Happy'. "At first I thought he hated me and thought I was weird 'cause I’m so hyper, but now we cool—it's so sick," Tyler told Mass Appeal magazine in March last year.

  • Flume + Chet Faker: The producer and musician are two of the hottest artists in Australia right now, so it makes sense they would buddy up. Faker appeared on Flume's debut self-titled record in 2012, before the two decided to join forces properly and released the excellent collaborative Lockjaw EP in late 2013.

  • Katy B + Jessie Ware: The two London singers are both the go-to vocalists for UK electronic producers at the moment, so it's no wonder they're pals. Jessie lent vocals to Katy's track 'Aaliyah' for her 2012 EP Danger, and the pair regularly send tweets of support to each other. Another duo we'd like to go for a drink with. • The Rudimental girls: The electronic group's debut Home wouldn't have been the truly great record it was if it wasn't for the excellent female vocalists who featured on it - step forward Ella Eyre, Becky Hill and Sinead Harnett. Alongside Ann Marie, who toured with the Hackney quartet throughout their string of festival dates in 2013, the ladies uploaded a video of themselves covering Lorde's 'Royals', dubbing themselves 'The Vaginas of Rudimental'. Amazing - please form a real band.

  • Win Butler + James Murphy: Arcade Fire frontman Butler admitted he previously thought of Murphy and his LCD Soundsystem outfit as "insufferable". However, the two musicians are now firm friends, with Murphy producing Arcade Fire's most recent album Reflektor. They hope to collaborate again in the near future.

  • Hudson Mohawke + Lunice: Before meeting Montreal producer Lunice, Glaswegian Hudson Mohawke admitted he didn't like the idea of working with another producer. However, after spending several days in a studio getting drunk on whiskey Mohawke and Lunice realised they had a special kind of musical chemistry. The result? The collaborative project TNGHT, which produced the kind of bass-y, hip hop/electronic beats rappers try to sell their own mother for. The project has since been disbanded, but we reckon these two will join forces again soon. [Photo: Dials]

  • Haim + Lauren Mayberry: Ever since the Haim sisters went on tour with Chvrches, they've all been firm friends. Last week, they demonstrated this friendship via a Talkhouse podcast, during which, though Mayberry quite often struggled to get a word in, they showed themselves to be firmly enamoured with each other. The miscellaneous human in this picture are probably great too.

  • Taylor Swift + Lorde: Really, this could have been Taylor Swift + any female artist under the age of 30 (except KP, but we won't go into that again), but these two go on hikes together. Beverly Hills hikes, granted, but hikes nonetheless - and they look like times for beautiful, deep conversations.

  • Alex Turner + Josh Homme: The Arctic Monkeys frontman and Queens of the Stone Age leader's friendship dates back to 2009, when Homme co-produced the Monkeys' record Humbug. Their relationship is still going strong - Homme and Turner have spent most of the past few years batting praise back and forth, and they recently bonded further by reading out lyrics from their iPhone Notes on Homme's radio show.

  • Contrary to popular belief, Taylor Swift is not, in fact, the only musician on the planet to be friends with other musicians. From housemates Chance The Rapper and James Blake to Katy Perry and Rihanna, these are the 11 coolest friendships in music.
