This supremely gifted wonky pop multi-instrumentalist/singer/rapper from Surrey has released his second proper studio recording, 'Best Friend'. Listen to it on Gigwise below.
He's currently managed by the team behind Jamie T and King Krule, and on evidence of this latest cut, it won't be long before we're mentioning him in the same breath. His music resembles that of Brit school student Cosmo Pyke, and Only Real - he has that young stoner Mac De Marco loving feel but it's less lo-fi. Rex is ambitious and effortlessly manges to fuse in classical sensibilities with his pop bangers. His inclusion of woodwind and brass with eclectic percussion lends to a very full sound that you can't help but want to indulge in time and time again.
It seems that Rex's music is boundless and his imagination floats across so many genre's but one thing that keeps it together is his natural ability to gift his listener a piece of his soul in engaging lyrical flow and rhyme. He's born to perform and won't be going anywhere fast. He's got the support of Tyler, The Creator and Badbadnotgood who reached out to work with him upon hearing demos on Bandcamp and about a year later his most professional work to date is here and proves that he's ready for the big time.
