Four Tet, aka London producer Kieran Hebden, has joined the masses of musicians protesting against what is fast becoming referred to as President Donald Trump’s (those words don’t get any easier to type) “Muslim ban”.
However in a somewhat more original move, Hebden has done so by creating a playlist of music from the seven countries, with largely Muslim populations, whose people are banned from entering the United States for the next three months.
Hebden explained on Twitter that the inspiration for this most peaceful and loving form of protest came from working with Omar Souleyman in Brooklyn in 2015. Four Tet produced such songs as Souleyman’s ‘Bahdeni Nami’, which you can check out below.
“Been checking music from trumps banned countries today,” Hebden wrote. “@FourTet Recording with @OSouleyman in Brooklyn a few years ago and it not being allowed anymore got me thinking about it.”

Trump’s overtly racist executive order is for a blanket ban on people born in Somalia, Syria, Libya, Iraq, Sudan, Yemen and Iran. The playlist, which is now more than 30 hours long, features music from all of those countries including Souleyman, Rahim AlHaj, Hassan Aden Samatar, Kourosh Yaghmaei, Martik, Mohammed Rafi, Coulibaly Tidiane and Troupe Chaoueche Saad.
