Foo Fighters are strongly believed to be playing a secret gig in Somerset tonight where they are expected to announce to their Glastonbury headlining slot.
Gigwise readers will of course recall the news that Dave Grohl and chums had sent out a mystery email to their fans in the form of a mock boarding pass for the fictitious transport company, Obelisk Airpline, thus suggesting either a festival announcement or perhaps secret gig. Now it seems those rumours are about to fly (see what we did there?).
It seems that some fans have been asked to check and choose a seat on their website and once they’ve done that, they are guided to an in-flight entertainment systems that shows a counting down clock. And on top of that, they’ve been invited to the Cheese and Grain, an intimate venue in Frame, Somerset. Which is, like, really close to Glastonbury. Could this be a gig? An announcement? Both?
Posting on their Facebook page, the Cheese and Grain have almost confirmed the event, saying: “We have a strictly private event at the Cheese & Grain this Friday 24th February. There will be no tickets available at all to anyone who has not already been invited. Please do not come to the venue as we are unable to assist with any admission requests and we will be closed to the public all day.”
Elsewhere, Somerset Live reports that films crews are already in attendance and that barriers are being erected around the venue.
Foo Fighters were forced to cancel their previous Glastonbury headlining slot in 2015 when frontman Dave Grohl break his leg. So, with the best will in the world, let’s wish him luck for tonight’s gig instead of breaking a…uh… actually, let’s not go there, eh?
