Manic Street Preachers have spoken of how Escape From History, the new documentary concerning the story of Everything Must Go, has helped them tell that particular chapter of their history “definitely for the last time.”

Escape From Victory, which is scheduled to be shown on Sky Arts this Saturday (April 15), has been overseen by longtime collaborator Kieran Evans who has previously worked with the band on all the videos from their last two albums, Rewind The Film, and Futurology, as well the Generation Terrorists documentary, Culture, Alienation, Boredom and Despair.

Speaking to NME, singer-guitarist James Dean Bradfield said: “It’s told definitively for the last time – that’s why we did it.”

The film focuses on the impact of guitarist-lyricist Richey Edwards’ disappearance in February 1995 and the band’s defiant return with the fourth album, Everything Must Go.

“It feels like there’s nothing else to say about Everything Must Go any more. So this is a relief and a pleasure.”

Bradfield continued: “To be honest, to be brutal, I’ll never have to talk about it again. I’ll never have to make a film about it again. I wouldn’t want to do it any more. It is nice to actually put a cap on it and nice to know that you have a definitive film, it’s there, it’s done.”

The importance of Everything Must Go was recently analysed in depth by Gigwise and you can read Dan Lucas' insightful piece here.
