Haim are back. The LA sister trio have finally broken their silence, with the release of 'Right Now' - the first offering from their long-awaited second record Something To Tell You, out July 7. Listen on Gigwise below.
The sisters have been drumming-up hype - quite literally - for the Days Are Gone follow-up over the past couple of weeks. In-studio teaser clips showing the band laying down beats and percussion were uploaded to their social channels, while huge billboards sporting the new press shot previously appeared in London, Berlin, LA and Sydney.
Now, with our copies of 2013's Days Are Gone well and truly worn-out, Danielle, Alana and Este save the day with the new comeback track and video.
'Right Now' is presented to the world in the form of a live performance piece, continuing the trend started by those teaser videos.
Speaking excitedly to Zane Lowe on Beats 1, Haim told the "crazy story" of how the idea came about - beginning with the band's Mother teaching American film maker Paul Thomas Anderson in the 80s. A decade-spanning connection resulted in Anderson shooting a full live to tape film of the track. The result is a much more reserved version of Haim, with Danielle claiming the performance is not so different from the album version.
"Now you're saying that need me, right now" Danielle sings on the new track.
The title track from Something To Tell You will be the first official single and is out 3 May.
The new album sees the band work once again with big-dog pop producer Ariel Rechtshaid, who's star-studded roster of clients includes the likes of Adele, Beyonce, Charli XCX, Carly Rae Jepsen and Brandon Flowers - though this release hints at a rawer sound this time around.
If that wasn't enough, the band have been announced as the musical guest on US show Saturday Night Live. It airs 13 May, and y'can sure bet on a performance of, plus another album cut.
Haim previously showcased 'Give Me Just A Little Of Your Love' and 'Nothing's Wrong' at live shows last year, with Gigwise describing the former as " a thumping, guitar driven banger".
LP 2 was originally meant to drop much earlier, and was scheduled for late 2015. The release was pushed back to this summer, with the band telling Entertainment Weekly they "refuse to put out anything we're not 100 percent in love with". A zero tolerance to compromise when it comes to recording did come at a price though, as the sisters were forced to cancel Reading & Leeds shows to focus on studio sessions.
Haim will make up for their absence at R&L 2016 though, and are set to make a triumphant return as NME/Radio 1 tent headliners at the dual event this August. The band are also due to air new material at Radio 1's Big Weekend and Glastonbury.
Welcome back. Bass faces at the ready, guys.
