If you're lucky enough to be heading to the beautiful Cornish surf and music festival Boardmasters this weekend - where Two Door Cinema Club, Jamiroquai and Alt-J headline - then be sure to download the brand new app.

The innovative app, powered by London start-up Second Screen, is the only place to get the line-up and map, and with so much programmed it's an essential guide.

The app also keeps you up to date with festival news, secret shows, and exclusive behind-the-scenes content, such as a band broadcasting from backstage. Gone, it seems, are the days of the paper programme.

The Boardmasters app succeeds where other festival apps fall short as it acts as a community platform allowing festival goers to post their reactions to gigs using photos, videos, meme's and lots more. Plus, as it's a multimedia forum exclusively for Boardmasters festival-goers, sharing your footage on the app will save swamping your Facebook feed to a less enthusiastic audience sat at home.

Meanwhile, bands are able to interact with the crowd in a personable way as they're offered the chance to post their footage in the app with photographs, interviews, videos and much more that you won't find on any music site or Facebook feed.

To summarise, app features include:

Stage times
Ticket news
Line up news
Newsfeed
Festival map

Unmissable gigs

Acts you should definitely try and check out if you're heading to Boardmasters on Friday are Aussie Andrew Weatherall fans, Jagwar Ma; the People Just Do Nothing and heroes of British comedy, Kurupt FM; South London rapper, Giggs; and the mesmerising Flaming Lips, who are quite simply one of the best live bands on the planet.

On Saturday Mercury Prize nominee - and potential winner - Loyle Carner will bring in thousands for his candid and beguiling rap, and Jake Bugg has an arsenal of hits that are beautiful to hear.

On Sunday The Amazons will play an explosive main stage set of cuts taken from their top ten debut album, and DJ Shadow will headline the second biggest stage. All in all, Boardmasters has come up trumps this year with the music.

Other activities

It's also an idea to break up your day at the wellness area or get stuck into watching some world class BMX, skating and surfing down at the stunning Fistral Beach and at Watergate Bay. Plenty going on to be inspired by.
