A festival of two halves, Sunfall returns to London for its second year this Saturday (August 12).
Taking over four stages spread across Brockwell Park, the daytime action kicks off at midday and runs for 10 hours… but the fun doesn’t stop when the festival gates close.
After the outdoor action wraps up, Sunfall takes charge of some of the capital’s most-loved clubs (old and new) to offer a carefully crafted night time program to take everyone into the early hours (more on that later)…
To get warmed up we’ve picked eight essential acts at the daytime party
HAAi: 12-13.30 (South Stage)
HAAi (pronounced ‘hi’) aka Teneil Throssell took the helm as Phonox’s Saturday night resident in September last year. Since then she’s gone from strength to strength with diverse, journeying DJ sets and now experiments with her own productions and Coconut Beats party series.
Peggy Gou 12.30-14.30 (North Stage)
Turning heads in underground circles with her prolific stream of high quality mixes, Peggy Gou’s combination of pulsing house, acid, techno, broken beats and abstract compositions have given her an upward trajectory into the elite dance music sphere. Pretty quickly, too. With tracks like ‘Gou Talk’ and ‘Makotop’, it’s no surprise she’s being booked to play in different cities and countries every other day.
Beautiful Swimmers: 13.30-15.30 (South Stage)
A duo made up of Andrew Field-Pickering (AKA Max D) and Ari Goldman, the pair have been going back-to-back for nearly ten years. Unmissable party selections – expect elevation all over if/when they play ‘Excited’.
Shanti Celeste: 14.30-16.00 (North Stage)
A core member of the Idle Hands collective, Shanti Celeste has released killer records on its revered label as well as her own BRSTL imprint and Julio Bashmore’s Broadwalk Records. Expect a set of dusty, groove-ridden house that’s full of melody.
Palms Trax: 15.30-17.30 (South Stage)
Dekmantel affiliate and producer Palms Trax steps up bringing a selection of rugged house and uplifting anthems to Brockwell Park.
Helena Hauff: 16.00-18.00 (North Stage)
Hamburg DJ and producer Helena Hauff’s sound as a DJ can’t be nailed down as she cuts between genres with ease. Expect a fast-paced, often obscure, mix of acid, house, electro and techno when she steps up at Sunfall.
Motor City Drum Ensemble: 17.30-19.15 (Main Stage)
German house pioneer Danilo Plessow, better known as Motor City Drum Ensemble, ties together traditional sensibility with insane innovation to create the most memorable DJ sets. Perhaps that’s why he’s quite possibly the most revered selector in the underground by both peers and fans alike. Uplifting and eclectic selections at the ready.
Princess Nokia: 19.45-20.45 (West Stage)
Emerging last year from the fertile New York scene, Princess Nokia has very quickly cemented herself as one of the most exciting rappers around, announcing herself on the global stage with her killer mixtape, 1992. Known for delivering raucous live shows, ‘Tomboy’ and ‘G.O.A.T’ are bound to shake the speakers.
