It's about the state the world is in right now

Time to switch it up, is it? Biig Piig returns this morning with a brand new single - and a brand new direction. 'Switch' is a total 180 to drum and bass pop from her typical lo-fi stoner RnB. Quick work, too: the song is about the world right now.

A wicked bassline propels 'Switch' forwards into a new world of drum and bass. Short and sharp at 2 minutes 20, the new song - which was Annie Mac's Hottest Record in the World last night - is more than enough to prove that Jess Smyth is no one trick pony.

Her smoky vocals are still recognisable through the newness, but barely. Smyth's melodies have gone from quiet and undone to sure and certifiably pop.

Hear it:

'Switch' is about "the tension, helplessness and pressure that the world is under right now. The beat and lyrics to me represents the fast pace of how the world is falling apart, and the anxious undertone of it all."

That's some fast work, Biig Piig! We can't wait to hear more.
