Post-punk/math rock favourites black midi have announced their upcoming new album Cavalcade, out 28 May on Rough Trade Records. Alongside this announcement, the band have shared the lead single ‘John L’ and its bizarre accompanying music video.

‘John L’ is a puzzle of sound to introduce the high concept new album. The stop-and-start track features Jerskin Fendrix on violin to create an almost apocalyptic sound, enhanced by horror-soundtrack pianos and dramatic vocals. It’s unlike anything else on the alternative scene right now.

Vocalist and guitarist Geordie Greep said that their priority was “to make music that was as dramatic and as exciting as possible” on Cavalcade, and ‘John L’ succeeds in taking drama to new heights. Without a doubt, Cavalcade is likely to be their most ambitious project yet.
