More about: The Liars Club
'8 Tonne' announces the return of Barrow-in-Furness punk group The Liars Club, who are making a statement on the endemic drug problem in the UK with their frenzied new single. The cut announces the band's second EP Of Self, coming in June.
Dropping with a video today, '8 Tonne' refers to the stat that Londoners are consuming eight tonnes of cocaine every single year. "The Angels said to the people, welcome" imitates the moment at which drug addiction begins.
See the video, shot at the Roxy, and hear the new song, which alchemises careful thought with the punk greats of old, here:
The Of Self EP will follows last year's 'Tutankhamun' and the 2018 debut EP Dormant. In the time since that first release, the band's original drummer Jake died by suicide. “It would be easy to not talk about what happened but what would be the point in that?” vocalist Noah Johnson said. “Jake was a massive part of the band so if people take one thing from The Liars Club, it’s that they need to talk to each other.”
Of '8 Tonne', the band noted: "the song has purposely been written to be close to the bone, with Noah’s aggressive vocals being a literal cry for help; a warning."
Of Self arrives 18 June via Neoprima Music.
