The ultimate ditzy indie-pop track, ‘All I Ever Asked’ is effortlessly upbeat without being too sickly sweet. Balancing a joyful instrumental with lyrics about all the pining and desperation involved in love in the modern dating world, Rachel is no stranger to creating beautifully crafted viral hits.
As the follow-up to her 2021 EP Four° In Winter and ‘So My Darling (Acoustic)’—another TikTok favourite—she’s clearly hit on a magic formula. But despite the online success, ‘All I Ever Asked’ proves there’s been no compromise necessary, as it avoids any clichés or obvious soundbites made solely for TikTok dances.
It comes off the back of her open letter in January, calling out racism and unconscious bias that creeps into people’s perceptions of her music. This new release backs up her statement—Rachel Chinouriri is a through and through indie artist, and one you should be paying attention to.
