More about: Ethel Cain
Ethel Cain has released the tender closing song from her forthcoming debut album Preacher's Daughter. 'Strangers' is an ecstatic six-minute piece that luxuriates in melancholy and hope.
Imbued with the same kind of eerie veiling that characterised her breakthrough EP Inbred, 'Strangers' continues to make beauty out of frightening beginnings growing up in a hyper-religious community. Whispery vocals and anesthesic electronic moments soon give way to a stunning turn of electric guitar.
Is this what Carrie would have turned out like if she hadn't have been bullied?

'Strangers' follows 'Gibson Girl' as a further single taken from May album Preacher's Daughter.
“This is the second song I wrote for this record, without the intention that it would become the ending. Looking back, I can’t imagine a more perfect resolution to this lineage," Ethel said.
"I think subconsciously, this song was always the end of the road. It’s the realization that some things cannot be avoided, only accepted, and that just because it isn’t a happy ending, doesn’t mean it’s a bad one."
