More about:

Hot Chip are getting the difficult first day back after the Bank Holiday off to a fantastic start: they've just announced their eighth studio album Freakout/Release, ready to drop in August on Domino.

A blending of styles—primary among them old school disco—lead single 'Down' is too complex a piece to be pure joy, but its buzzy synths and disco ball backing vocals are a shot of energy.

'Down' is Freakout/Release's opening track and is underpinned by a looped sample from 'More Than Enough' by Universal Togetherness Band.

Written during the pandemic, the album is filled with—as the band put it—"a darkness that runs through a lot of those tracks.”
