More about: Stella Donnelly
Stella Donnelly returns with ‘Flood’, the title track from her upcoming album. Following the big, fun spring single ‘Lungs’, ‘Flood’ is pared back and gentle. Further her movement from guitar tracks into piano-led tunes, something about the keys doubles-down on the feelings and atmosphere. Paired with a silly video, infused with all the excitement of little childhood antics and adventures, it's a sweet one.

Written in the depths of a winter lockdown in Melbourne, Stella said of the track: “"This song feels like a sad little adventure. I wrote it in the dark depths of a Melbourne winter lockdown where it had been raining for consecutive weeks. Everyone around me was falling into their own version of depression at different times. It felt like a flood of trauma yet at the same time, we were given an opportunity of time to work through stuff that we’d been distracting ourselves with for so long prior to the pandemic."
Moving into more traditional ballad territory, her story-telling lyricism that captivated us on old tracks like ‘Beware of the Dogs’, returns with full force here, now speaking to a maturity and new take on her craft.
The album Flood arrives 26th August on Secretly Canadian
