More about:

Red Rum Club offer a unique voice in the world of indie rock as the catchy choruses and upbeat tunes we would expect from the genre are given a much fuller feel thanks to brass instruments and an ensemble of talented musicians playing them. This formula has never steered the band wrong and it doesn’t look like it will any time soon either following the release of their newest single ‘The River’.

Even though Red Rum Club are fresh off the back of a tour round the US, ‘The River’ acts a tip of the hat to driving around Merseyside. The track opens steady at the “corner shop meeting place” where we have nothing but sweet vocals and a strumming guitar to keep us company. As is now classic for Red Rum Club though, this stripped back approach doesn’t last too long as once we get to the chorus we’re joined by trumpets, bass, drums and everything else that we have come to expect from them.

Lead singer Fran Doran spoke about the new single saying, “This track reminisces on summer days of blue skies and brown water,” before continuing, “the song emulates those summer nights by starting quiet and tranquil only to quickly grow into a rowdy, energetic track with a real feel of teen angst and explosive anticipation.” As we creep slowly into the winter months which are filled with shorter days and darker nights, having a song that manages to invoke those feelings of summer once again is exactly what we all need.

The single comes just a couple of weeks before the band set off on their biggest ever UK tour. It’s going to span 13 dates and will end in Liverpool, where Red Rum Club are playing to a twice sold out Eventim Olympia. Throughout the tour they will also be heading to Manchester, London, Bristol, Glasgow and more.

You can stream ‘The River’ now and tickets to the new tour are on sale!
