More about:

After bagging our number 4 album of 2022, CMAT has made her glorious return for the new year. Launching right in with the no-holds-back single ‘Mayday’ - CMAT is in love and the world is ending, just to set the scene.

In classic CMAT fashion, the americana elements are still clear and endlessly catchy. Straying into doo-wop territory with an underpinning classic rock-steady guitar, we’re relieved to know that a new CMAT era doesn’t have to mean all change. Keeping all the kitschy quirkiness close as the instantly recognisable vibe of her work, ‘Mayday’ simply levels it up for bigger stages, bigger bands and bigger crowds to scream it back.

Talking about the track, CMAT said: "Mayday is a very sexy song about climate change. I found the inspiration for the song last summer. My boyfriend was on tour and flying into a country that was at the time being evacuated for forest fires. I was so anxious, I kept asking for him to text me when he landed. Eventually he did, like: ‘hey! The runway is on fire’. I thought the human anxieties of the oncoming climate change disaster are something that are either not spoken about, or spoken about in big, sweeping, dramatic statements. I wanted to bring it back down to something pretty mundane and quite funny. Like the musical equivalent of a Coronation Street episode about fracking"

Hopeful that this means a new album might be on the cards for the year, if you didn’t get onboard with the CMAT party last year, now's your time to get involved.
