There’s an emotional rollercoaster embodied in the new single released by Sad Boys Club, ‘To Heal Without a Scar (Is a Waste of a Good Wound)’ and if this is anything to go by then the new album coming in May is going to be an hour epic of sonic ups and downs. Sad Boys Club continue to show us why they are turning heads left and right in the music industry with a song that is equal parts upsetting and uplifting.

“Sometimes I can have a hard time acknowledging life as reality,” says lead singer Jacob Wheldon, “maybe I just don’t want to. It often results in bad consequences for myself and those around me which I then use songs to somehow justify – some might argue that makes me a toxic narcissist, I’m not sure I’d disagree.”

The track is a dissection of self-improvement. It starts quite steady, one two three drums and constant guitar hum which produces a kind of coming of age punk sound rooted in modernity. It trickles through to a punchy chorus which sounds like the turning point in sad cinema, a moment of clarity, of improvement and motivation.

“I’m working on it,” confirms Wheldon, “a lot of this album is about working on whatever ‘it’ is. Getting Better? It fell out at the end of a particularly bad period of writer’s block and unlocked a majority of the writing on the record so feels like the only place to begin.”

The new single comes out alongside an announcement that the band will be releasing a brand new album, “Lullabies From The Lightning Tree,” in May 2023. This is going to accompany a string of shows around the EU and the UK.

Sad Boys Club continue to impress with this single with deep rooted lyrics, emotive production and a bridge build so pit making worthy that the drums may as well spell out festival season in morse code. It’s an exciting glimpse into what Sad Boys Club have coming up in what promises to a special year.
