Landing in our inbox this morning, we have a fresh new obsession. With roots stretching from Liverpool to Wales to Iran to Copenhagen and beyond, Trout’s second ever single ‘Gutter’ has us hooked.

With flavours of Marika Hackman, Soccer Mommy grunginess and Adrienne Lenker lyricism, Trout mixes raw energy with little electronic details masterfully here. As the latest signing to Chess Club Records, she’s clearly got a lot more up her sleeve.

Tackling depression and the baffling stigma that still follows it, 23-year of Cesca said of the track: “‘Gutter’ is about an experience I had with someone close to me, where they couldn’t relate to dealing with depression. They believed it wasn’t a real thing or something people choose to feel, which is equally hilarious as it is tragic. It’s written fairly tongue-in-cheek to reflect that.”

Keeping our fingers crossed for more music soon, ‘Gutter’ will be on repeat until then.
