Right from the word go, Ruby Gaines shows listeners that she isn’t messing around. The opening line “I don’t care how it looks” is dragged out with impressive vocals that are difficult to ignore as being anything other than amazing. This sets the tone for the rest of the track, raising a bar which Ruby refuses to duck underneath.

It’s hardly a surprise that the song is as good as it is when you consider the team of people who were behind it. It was recorded by Chris McCrory, a producer who has twice been nominated for a Scottish Album of the Year Award. With that experience and Ruby’s outstanding ability as a singer and musician, you’re only ever going to get a banger.

The track comes out ahead of ‘Heavy Good’ which is a four track EP Ruby will be releasing on 18^th August. ‘How It Looks’ is the second song from this EP, giving fans more of a glimpse into what they can expect from one of the UK’s most exciting up and comers.

“This song is about laying yourself down in front of someone and asking them to see you but they refuse,” said Ruby, “it’s about the ‘bro’s before hoes’ lads that don’t want to see their bros actions as harmful and about me finally saying ‘fuck this, and fuck you too. You don’t want to hear me speaking my truth? I’ll start loudly singing it instead.’”

Because of the message behind it, the track is packed full of emotion. It’s easily one of Ruby’s best since she originally came onto the scene in 2020 and it sets the groundwork for what has the potential to be an incredibly successful career.
